WEATHER: Sunny in AM. Thunderstorms in PM. Highs in 60s
We took a hike around Lake Munscho. The fishermen said that the fish are at about 60 feet below the surface, so hard to catch without a boat and good luck. The lake is so beautiful
We drove only about an hour to our destination, Laird Hot Springs. It is a popular stop along the Alaska Highway, so we arrived early in order to get a site. We arrived at about noon, and watched the big rigs trying to get the last spots.
The Mosquitos here are pretty bad, so we set up our netted shelter. By the time we got it up, we had lots of Mosquitos trapped inside. We couldn't find the instructions so it took us awhile to set it up.
Our car has acquired a mouse hitchhiker! The bag with George's trail mix was full of holes when he reached for a snack in the car. We got a trap this PM and will try to get the little guy. Meantime, I took all the food out of the car, searching for more evidence.
We walked in the rain to the hot springs for a soak. Unlike others, this is very natural, not a swimming pool set-up. The water is hotter than most, too, at 45C, 110 F. It was raining while we sat in the springs, so the cool rain contrasted nicely with the hot water.
DINNER: George made a fire, mostly to keep the Mosquitos at bay. I sautéed onions and the meat from a leftover grilled turkey thigh over the fire. Inside, I made some pasta and boiled up some edamame. I put it altogether with some pesto and topped with fresh Parmesan. Tasty! I'm so glad I stocked up on food in Grande Prairie, as there isn't much to buy along this stretch of the Alaska highway.
