We had a great breakfast at our hotel, in a thatched roof hut. We had fresh-squeezed pineapple juice and lovely fruit. They have 14 varieties of bananas here, each with its own name and flavor.
We headed to the town of Munnar where we picked up our guide. We spent the morning at India's largest national park. We went high in the mountains in search of a rare mountain goat called tahr. We saw about 10 of the 1000 that are in the park. There are only 2000 in the world. We took a park bus up to the walking path. The hairpin turns were so severe, and the road so narrow, that the bus had to backup to make the turns. I sat next to an Indian lady. She must have thought it was special to sit next to a foreigner, as she took a selfie of the 2 of us!
There are tea plantations all over, on terraces ip and down the mountains. So lush and green.
Twisty road among tea plantations
We learned that part of the movie "Life of Pi" was filmed here...the church, mosque and temple scenes at the beginning.
