Day 253. April 16, 2014. Hike survival.

LOCATION:  Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Amarillo, TX, in north Panhandle
WEATHER:  Cool. Sunny, high around 75

We went on a 6-mile hike in the canyon.  This sign, with its dire warning, greeted us.
Here I am with my walking stick and hiking boots ready to hike.   We started in the AM so it wasn't too hot yet.  We had a picnic along the way.
Back at the campground, some deer came begging for food at our picnic table
Obviously, others have fed them...we didn't
DINNER:  I had soaked cannellini beans all day.  I cooked them up, adding a large amount of sautéed onions, some garlic, and a few small slices of smoked summer sausage.  I made  "borracho beans", a popular dish in Texas.  Borracho means drunk in Spanish.  To make the beans,   I added beer, BBQ sauce, Worchestire sauce, and  mustard to them and cooked for awhile.   I served them over baked potatoes.  George really liked it.
