WEATHER: Cool and rainy. Highs in 50s
Our friend Heather is traveling around Australia for a few weeks. She is in Melbourne now, so we met her there for the day. We took the train into the city....
First up was a famous old pub built in 1861, called Young &Jacksons. We had a great lunch there
With full tummies, we hiked around downtown. I love the juxtaposition of the new and old buildings.
We visited the Treasury Museum, Federation Square, and Fitzroy Gardens, where a wedding in the rain was taking place...We popped into the conservatory to see the beautiful flowers including many unusual poinsettias.
Heather wanted to try some Australian gin. The bartender at Young & Jacksons had recommended the Gin Palace, which we found down a cute alley. It was decadent and opulent inside, replete with a bathtub for making bathtub gin.
We shared a flight, learning about different types from the serious bartender.
After escorting Heather back to her hotel, we caught the train back to Ballarat. It was raining pretty hard, but Old Smokey got us back home safely.
DINNER: After a big lunch, we just had cheese and crackers.
