October 31, 2015. Happy Halloween!

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Portland, Oregon
WEATHER:  Absolute deluge!  It rained hard all day. Highs in 50s

We went to the farmers' market for the last time, before the rain started.  We had breakfast there, at a Chinese noodle soup place.  The hot (temp) and spicy soup warmed us up.  We bought some veg for the homeowners' return.

Then, we headed to northeast Portland where George wanted to try two more brewpubs,  it was pouring cats and dogs.  We got soaked running in and out of places.  Several of the streets were flooded as the Autumn leaves were clogging drainpipes.  The water came up above our floorboard.  Smaller cars turned around, but our pickup was able to get through.  (I just had to close my eyes!)

Then, we prepared for a Halloween costume party that some kind neighbors invited us to.  They own a chic restaurant in Portland.  The theme was "1960s TV sitcom show".  At first we weren't planning to go, as we don't have any costume materials with us, we didn't want to spend money on a commercial costume, and we didn't have any ideas.  One of our daughters gave us the idea of using a box to dress up like an old TV.  So, that's what we did.  We found a box, cut it to fit me, sprayed it black, and added knobs and skinny legs (chopsticks).  A coat hanger became the antenna.  Bungee cords kept the box in place.  George dressed up in police gear to look like Sheriff Taylor from the Andy Griffith Show.  I played old black-and -white Andy Griffith Show episodes from you-tube on my iPad and taped the iPad on the inside of the box to look like the TV show was playing.  It was quite real-looking.

The party was spooky cocktails, appetizers, and mingling.  We all voted on the best costume.  At the end of the evening, winners were chosen.  First place went to a very realistic Captain Kangaroo.

He is sitting with Mr. Howell  from Gilligan's Island.

We won second place!  Our prize was a gift card from their restaurant.  We will need to use it on Monday since we leave on Tuesday.

Third place were Laura Petrie and Dick from the Dick Van Dyke show...

These are the owners of the restaurant, dressed as Dennis the Menace and Fester  from the Addams Family.

We had a great time.  It was so nice of them to invite us!
