WEATHER: Cold, windy, and drizzly. Highs in low 40s
We left Sioux Falls and headed east to Minnesota. We drove 190 miles toward Rochester. We have plans to stay with friends starting tomorrow. Mankato was a good halfway point.
Since the weather was bad, and we were only going to sleep at a campground, we decided to "dry camp" in a Walmart parking lot. Our first time! As we have traveled, we have talked with several campers who do this regularly. If you don't need any amenities, it is fine.
To kill time (since there is nothing to do at a Walmart parking lot), we visited the Mankato Brewery. We had one of their IPAs. Nice folks. Then we went to a restaurant and shared some chicken wings.
We've spent 4 nights in different Walmart parking lots...in one there were over 20 rv's when we got up in the morning. Quite an experience using the Walmart washrooms. When you get to Dawson Creek on your way to Alaska you are likely to find as many as 50 rv's stopping over either on their way up and back down...a great source of current road information!
