WEATHER: Cool. Highs in 50s
We said goodbye to our host Gary, at his garage. It worked out so well staying there, but we were anxious to hit the road again.
We drove about 225 miles north to Duluth. The landscape really changes north of Minneapolis....lots more woodsy. All kinds of cars pulling boats passed us, guys going "up North" to fish. Some of the lakes still have ice on them, though.
We had heard that you can camp (free) in casino parking lots, so we thought we would try it. We stopped at this huge casino/hotel outside of Duluth. We asked if it was ok to camp, and they said yes.
It really is convenient. We are parked right outside the back door, with a restroom at the entrance. Security was good during the night.
We each received $5 in gambling money since we are first-timers. I promptly lost mine on the slot machine as I didn't know what I was doing. It took George about 1/2 hour to spend his, as he bet in one penny increments.
Casinos are so different from the TV ads, showing young thin people dressed in evening gowns, with an elegant drink in one hand, and wads of cash in the other hand. In reality, it is a large, loud room, hazy with cigarette smoke, with old, sad-looking people pressing a button non-stop. We were not tempted at all to use real money to gamble.
After dinner in the RV, we walked back over to check out the night's entertainment, a comedian. He wasn't very good, so we didn't stay.
We will probably stay at a casino again if it is convenient....free, clean bathrooms, security. Maybe next time we will win some money, too!
DINNER: Excellent, I thought. I used a recipe I saw on Neil Stellino's cooking show for Risortto with Zucchini and Goat Cheese. The recipe is online. The side dish was sautéed kale with portabello mushrooms. What a feast!
You are close to my home digs! The scenery should get better and better. If you have time look for agates. We enjoyed your company in Rochester. Safe travels.
