We watched a little video by the show's producer. He said that this farm was perfect for filming, as it hadn't been modernized and needed very little to appear natural in the show.
This is the house (built in the 13th century) where Lady Edith's Marigold lived with the Drewes family.
I could have taken pictures all day.
Happily, we were the only tourists here. I think generally most tourists come by tour vans. We enjoyed the tranquility.
A bit of Downton trivia..... In 2014 China's first school for butlers opened to meet a growing demand, attributed to the influence of Downton Abbey.
We caught the bus back to Oxford. The buses aren't air-conditioned, and have tiny windows. The inside temperature must have been 100+, a real sauna.
Back home, after refreshing cold showers, we watched a Martin Clunes tv show, also filmed at the farm we visited.
DINNER: Too hot to cook, so I made chicken salad sandwiches.

ReplyDeleteFunny how they're not set up for hot weather. I grew up in Adelaide, a mostly hot city, and they are hopeless when winter comes. No-one had adequate heating.
ReplyDeleteWow! 90 in England? People must be so confused. No one in Europe is ready for that kind of heat, and especially not England!
