August 5, 2016. Call the Midwife!

The LOCATION:  Housesitting in Orpington, England, outside of London.
WEATHER:  Beautiful.  Sunny. Highs upper 60s

We took our morning walk with Bela in the nearby park.  George took us deep into the woods....I thought we were lost.

Then, a train to Chatham, about 45 minutes away.  The historic Chatham Dockyards have been preserved, and are used to film my favorite British TV show, "Call the Midwife".  I was in heaven looking at it.

The outdoor scenes are filmed here.  This is from the opening scene, with laundry strewn between the buildings....

Quite a few of the buildings look familiar.  One of the guides told me that they were filming 2 weeks ago.

The Chatham Dockyards turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.  They have several clever exhibitions.  The tour of the ropery (where rope is still being made just like in the 1700s) was especially brilliant.  We toured a submarine.  The area is massive.  After walking for several hours, George was happy to find this little brewery on site.

On our way home, we passed through Rochester.  George is appropriately wearing his Rochester t-shirt today.

Back home, I walked Bela while George tried the beer he bought in Chatham.

DINNER:  Baked potatoes with chili on top, with a dollop of soured cream.  (They call it soured, not sour, here, which makes sense).
