LOCATION: Palm Springs, California
WEATHER: Hot. Highs in 90s
We left Joshua Tree National Park and headed down, toward Palm Sorings, about 50 miles away. We had just driven a few miles on Interstate 10, when......thud, thud, thud......one of the tires on the trailer blew out. I was SO glad that George was driving, and not me. He pulled over and put on the spare tire.
The highway was super busy, and big semi-trucks could not move to the left lane, so they flew by, just inches away.
George got the job done, hot and dirty. We drove into a nearby desert town and found a Pep Boys to get a new tire put on. We walked to "George's Bar and Grill" for lunch while they were working on the tires It is supposedly famous for its burgers and grumpy service. The cook/owner shouts out insults to customers. Kind of fun. George bought a t-shirt with the bar's name.
We are staying at a nice motel here. I couldn't wait to take a long, hot shower after having dry-camped the last 4 nights. It is so much hotter here in the valley. It would have been miserable camping. We unhooked the camper, and drove around the city. It is cute. Lots of outdoor restaurants and fancy shops. Palm trees everywhere. I looked for movie stars, but didn't spot any.
DINNER: We went to an unusual restaurant .....a sushi restaurant inside a Mexican restaurant. We had sushi, the first we have had on this trip. Oishi-kata!
