October 4, 2015. Portland Riverwalk

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Portland, Oregon
WEATHER:  Beautiful fall day.  Highs around 80

We spent the afternoon exploring the riverfront area of Portland.  The Willamette River splits the city.  We parked on the east side and walked on the river trail.

Although the calendar says October, and the leaves are turning red, orange, and yellow, it seems like a summer day with motor boats, tourist paddle boats,  and jet skis speeding by.

We had a nice little sandwich picnic along the trail.

There were a lot of bicyclists and walkers along the trail.  All along the trail,  we saw lots and lots of homeless people.  Many have little campgrounds set up with tents and lean-tos.  The city provides porta-potties.

We crossed the bridge over to the west side. Lots of people were out, enjoying the unusual sunny weather.

The Portland Marathon had been run in the morning.  Lots of runners and their fans were out and about.  Lots of streets were blocked off.  We stopped by the famous weekend market.

Oregon legalized marijuana this week, and this entrepreneur was selling it from his "canni-bus".  Only in Portland!

We passed by this Portland icon, the Voodoo Doughnut shop.

People were lined up to buy their famous concoctions.

We stopped at a hip South American bistro for a couple of cold ones, then crossed the bridge back to our car.  What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

DINNER:  "Drunken Mussels".... Mussels steamed in a wine and garlic broth with crusty French bread to mop up the juice.  Heavenly!  Side was roasted cauliflower.  Really gourmet, and we calculated that it cost about $3 each.....plus the wine. :-)
