LOCATION: House-sitting in Portland, Oregon
WEATHER: Slight rain and clouds. Highs near 70
Portland's weather lived up to its rainy reputation today. It sprinkled and drizzled most of the day, so we put our plans to visit the zoo on hold. Instead, we found a cozy pub for lunch.
Yes, another McMenamins pub. We read about its history. It has been around since the late 1800s, always as a neighborhood friendly gathering spot. It got involved in the Beer Wars when the Teamsters Union bombed the bar as they were buying their beer outside the union 's distribution system. It burned down and McMenamins rebuilt it to look like the original. Lots of unusual art and woodwork.
We had a soup and sandwich near the cozy fireplace.
On our way out, George had to check out their grill...
They were smoking pork and salmon. Lovely aroma...
We drove around the Beaverton area, near our house, exploring options for Park n Ride for a day we want to spend in the city.
DINNER: Lamb burgers with pistachios. Another recipe from The Splendid Table. I served the patties on a bed of arugula with a side of cucumber yogurt dip. Great!
