December 7, 2015. Day trip to San Luis Obispo

CAMPGROUND:  2nd night at Morro Bay State Park.
LOCATION:  Morro Bay, California on Central Coast
WEATHER:  Beautiful!  Sunny and warm. High about 75

We watched hundreds of monarch butterflies fly through the campground.  So pretty!

We drove about 10 miles into the town of San Luis Obispo, to spend the day.  It has retained its Spanish architecture.  It is famous for its mission, settled by the Franciscans, then Jesuits.

It is also a college town, home of Cal Poly.  It has a vibrant atmosphere.  We strolled around the downtown.  Really cute.  We of course tried  a microbrewery.

The , back to the town of Morro Bay.  We went out to the harbor and watched the spectacular waves.

It is high tide, and the waves are especially high.  We watched about 100 surfers taking advantage of the high surf.  We also watched a fishing boat in trouble, trying to return to port.  The Coast Guard and Harbor Master boats went out to help, along with a helicopter.

It rocked and rolled, but made it in ok.

Morro Bay people fondly call their big rock, "Little Gibralter".....

DINNER:  George grilled shrimp on skewers over a charcoal fire.  I served them over a mix of sautéed kale, onions and garlic.  Served with toasted local sourdough bread.
