WEATHER: Very nice. Highs in 70s
Tomato day! George, Paola and I picked tons of tomatoes all morning. Everywhere we look, there are more! It is back-breaking work. I specialize in the minuscule pee-wee tomatoes, as I can sit on a bucket to pick them.
After picking gobs, we sorted them out. Some are perfectly ripe, but have bad places on them. Since we can't take those to the market, I made tomato sauce and packages of frozen tomatoes, after blanching them and plunging into ice water. What a production!
Our sun-drier is full, so we can't sun-dry any more right now.
In the evening, we returned to the organic winery where we had tasted wines last Sunday with our friends. We took a bag of tomatoes to the lady who poured for us. She had told us that she loves tomatoes and hers aren't ripe yet. We took the tomatoes that hadn't sold last weekend, but are still good. She was thrilled, and gave us a $5 discount on our bottle of wine!
The music was bluegrass. Very nice 5-piece band.
The food truck was from Louisiana. We split a $13 platter with catfish, gumbo, okra, beans and rice, and macaroni and cheese. What a deal!
It was a perfect evening.
