Day 330. July 2, 2014. Fantastic scenery along Alaska Highway

LOCATION:  Munscho Provincial Park along Alaska Highway, in north central British Columbia
WEATHER:  Sunny in AM.  Rain in PM.  High around 70

We had bagels (something different) for breakfast at Summit Lake, along with blueberries and bing cherries from British Columbia.  We talked with our bicycling neighbors, Jasper and Sanne,  from the Netherlands.  We watched them pack up ...pretty amazing...

They have all this stuff
...that somehow fits into their bike paneers
Today was an easy drive.  We only were on the road about two hours.  Gas here is very expensive.  In Grande Prairie, we bought it for $1.30/liter which is about $5.00/gallon.  Here, it is $1.70/liter which is about $6.50/gallon.  Yesterday, we spent $200 on gas!

We stopped at this village to get gas.  This is what most places along the highway look like
They are a combination of gas station, restaurant, motel, post office, RV park, firewood sales, tire repair, and ATM.  This town had an airstrip and a tiny school.  Bush pilots run the store.

We stopped at a campground on Munscho Lake.  It is drop-dead gorgeous.  The campground only has 15 sites.  We were lucky to snatch a site right on the lake.
We found fresh moose poop on the path between our site and the lake.  We listened to loons and watched the boaters.  It rained in the PM.   We didn't mind, as it was relaxing.  George napped and I read.

DINNER:  I saw this idea on Facebook, and gave it a try (with a twist).  I cut onions in half and scooped out the middle (to be used another time).  I stuffed the onions with lamb burger (recipe called for plain hamburger) that I had seasoned with oregano, cayenne and thyme.  I put the 2 onion halves back together to form a ball, wrapped in aluminum foil, and threw on the fire.  We also baked a potato in foil on the fire.  It really turned out tasty.
This is a good recipe to keep....could make a lot of variations with it, different herbs, cheeses, types of meat.
