Day 334. July 6, 2014. Day trips around Whitehorse

LOCATION:  Whitehorse, Yukon along the Alaska Highway
WEATHER:  Partly cloudy. Very pleasant. Highs in 60s

We had requested that our mail be forwarded to Grande Prairie while we were there, but it didn't arrive before we left.  So, my aunt sent it to us c/o the church in Whitehorse where she knows the minister.  We went to the service today to say hello to the folks.  The minister is on vacation, but we talked with others.  We are hoping the mail arrives Monday or Tuesday before we leave Whitehorse.

We made a day trip to nearby Takhini Hot Springs.

It was very nice.  I imagine soaking in the hot springs when it is 40 below must be neat.

George found a small lake and tried fishing, with no luck.

We returned to the campgrounds to do odd jobs.  We chatted with our neighbors, all in rental RVs from The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium.  Some of them fly into Vancouver, then spend a month or so in this area and Alaska, and then fly back home.  There is a direct flight from Whitehorse to Frankfort, Germany, surprisingly.

The mouse in the car is still at large.  The first day, he stole the bait.  Since then, there has been no action...the mousetrap is still set with the peanut butter bait.

DINNER:  George made a campfire.  I made our friend Tony's recipe,  a kind of corned beef skillet.  He uses grated potatoes, but since I don't have a grater, I used instant mashed potatoes.  It is a type  of meatloaf with corned beef, potatoes, catsup, mustard, egg and herbs.  Tony cooked his in a skillet as a large patty, which I should have done.  Instead, I made balls and wrapped in aluminum foil.  They were good, but stuck to the foil. Lesson learned.

  1. Good luck on the mouse hunt. I find that the sticky paper works the best. This is freaking Kathleen out!
