April 12, 2016. All around Adelaide

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Adelaide, South Australia
WEATHER:  Very nice. Highs around 70

We hopped on the tram (free) to go to downtown.  Our first stop was the railway station where we got information about Barossa Valley travel.  Then, we walked a few blocks, passing by two different universities, beautiful old churches, museums and art galleries.  Our destination was the (free) botanical gardens.

Adelaide has an amazing green space system.  The botanical gardens are huge.

This water lily display is amazing.

We ended this stroll at the National Wine Center.  They have a system whereby you receive a card, then insert it at one of the 120 wines available for tastings.  At the end, you pay for the number of tastes on your card.  We didn't do it, but talked with someone who did, and she said it was fun (and very easy to spend a lot of money).

As in Tasmania, there is a lot of interesting architecture here.  We were drawn to this "eat street" area by this restaurant that looks like it could be in New Orleans.

The owner of this Oyster Bar encouraged us to come in, so we had a dozen oysters for lunch.

Then on to the downtown pedestrian mall.  We haven't seen any Walmarts in Australia yet (yay!), but they do have Targets.  They are much smaller than the ones in the USA, and are ususlly like a small department store in a downtown.

We picked up a GPS that we had ordered online.   We don't have GPS in our truck at home, and figure we can use it when we rent cars in Australia and England, too.

DINNER:  Leftover porkchops and potatoes. Sides were cheesy cauliflower and a salad.

We have lots of channels on this house's TV.  One channel is BBC so we are watching many of our favorite shows in the evening, with Mello on our lap.
