October 3, 2015. Saturday outing west of Portland

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Portland, Oregon
WEATHER:  Beautiful fall day.  Sunny. High around 75

We shopped at the Beaverton Farmers' Market.  It is a really good one.  We want to return next Saturday earlier to eat breakfast in one of the many ethnic food stalls.

Then, we headed west.  Only after about 15 miles, we were totally in a rural area.  Lots of Christmas tree farms, nurseries, and vineyards.  Our destination was Forest Grove, home of another McMenamins pub.

On our way, we passed several wineries.  We stopped at this one that has two welcoming "wine dogs".

On to McMenamins.  We had lunch in their main restaurant.  Like most of their properties, this is a historical site.  It is the former Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star home for old people, "the infirmed", widows and orphans.  It is a large complex.

One of the outdoor bars was hopping with a polka band at an Oktoberfest.

We sat in the sun and enjoyed these "senior" players.  We redeemed another prize from our McMenamins passport, a nice tote bag and a growler insulated cover.

Then, on to another winery.  This one is atop a hill, with beautiful views.

DINNER:  Appetizer was some pate we bought at the farmers' market.  I made some tacos with leftover steak.
