December 2, 2015. Challenging weather on Interstate 5

CAMPGROUND:  Lakehead RV Park. Pretty dumpy.  Unpleasant bathroom.  Full hook- ups.  Grill.  Might be ok in summer.  Rec room, swimming pool.  Mostly long-term residents with junk.  $29.  2 stars. Convenient off I-5
LOCATION:  Lakehead, California near Mount Shasta.
WEATHER:  Drizzle most of the day. Highs up to 60

A long day driving.....360 miles.  We left Salem, Oregon about 8:30.  (So much for an early start).  We had seen the high wind warnings posted for southern Oregon/Northern California for late PM,  so decided to try to get south of there, if possible. We stopped in Roseburg at the southern-most McMenamins for a quick bowl of soup, and redeemed t-shirt prizes on our "passport".

We stopped in Ashland, Oregon for gas and for a look at the town.  Really cute.  It is known for its Shakespeare festivals.  Cute hotels and restaurants bear names like "Bard's Inn".  The winds started picking up, so we had to hurry on.

Near the California border, we climbed to the highest elevation on interstate 5, at 4500 feet.  The big trucks struggled going uphill, some with smoking engines.  It was thick fog.  Kind of scary.

As we descended, conditions improved.  We could see Mount Shasta.

After making it past the high wind advisory area, we started looking for a place to stay.  We can tell we are farther south as it didn't get dark until 4:30, whereas in Bainbridge Island, it was about 4:00.

We found this RV park, not far off the highway.  We are just north of Redding.  We settled in for the evening.

We touched base with our friends from San Francisco.  We will meet up with them on Friday.  It will be fun spending time with them.

DINNER:  More leftovers.  Turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, from Thanksgiving.
