WEATHER: Smoky skies. Highs about 80
We awoke to smoke in the air. Another wildfire started in the valley below us. So sad and scary, too!
Bill, the homeowner, scurried around all morning, teaching us last-minute things and preparing for his trip. We drove him to Santa Rosa where he was catching a shuttle bus to San Francisco. He is flying to Germany where he is meeting his wife Jaye. She is there for her MFA graduation. Then they will travel around Europe.
On our way to Santa Rosa, we passed lots and lots of vineyards and wineries. We passed Cuppola, Geyser Peak, Parducci, and other famous ones.
After we dropped off Bill, we stopped at a brewpub in a cute wine-country town. I had a really good IPA and George had a Belgium tripel.
We stopped in a nearby town cutely named Hopland. This restaurant had been recommended to us.
We ordered a mushroom pizza with all kinds of different mushrooms. It was cooked in their wood-fired pizza oven.
The staff were super friendly. Our waitress took our photo.
Most of the customers were sitting outside. George checked out the fire ring.....and the California babes.
By the time we got back, it was dark. The farm is located at the top of a mountain. We had to make the drive in the dark. We saw deer and a skunk. We patiently waited for him to cross the road so he wouldn't spray us.
