WEATHER: Hot in valley; pleasant here, with highs about 75
We drove through Lassen National Park, from the north entrance to the south entrance, about 35 miles of winding roads with beautiful views. Once we left the park, we approached an accident that had just occurred. This is really the first bad accident we have seen on this trip. Cars were backed up for miles.
It was a truck hauling two trailers of hay that had overturned. Hay was everywhere.
We drove through the valley, passing through lots of olive tree farms.
We stopped at the "olive town of America" at a shop and tried different kinds of olives.
We also drove through acres of dead-looking corn fields. Not the Midwest!
Our route took us through areas where there had been terrible forest fires in the past 2 weeks. The highway had just reopened. There were signs proclaiming 'We love our firefighters" everywhere.
Kipp, the dog, welcomed us back to the farm. We picked flower salad and veggies in the cool evening for tomorrow's farmers' market. It is interesting how seasonal everything is....many different ingredients for the salad, and different veggies, as compared to 2 months ago, when we were here before. Fruit now, too.
DINNER: Rotisserie chicken, pasta and salad.
