August 2, 2015. Leaving the coast

CAMPGROUND:  Doe Point National Forest Service on Fish Lake.  Like most NFS parks, it is woodsy with spacious sites.  Clean flush toilets, no showers.  No hook-ups.  4 stars. $10/night with senior pass.
LOCATION:  Between Medford, Oregon and Klamath Falls, Oregon in south central part of state
WEATHER:  Light rain on-and-off. Highs in upper 70s

After a stormy night, we  packed up from Sunset Bay State Park.  George cleaned the crow poop off the windshield one last time.

We drove about 230 miles south and east, through farmland then through forests.  The air was full of smoke from nearby forest fires.  We stopped at a rest stop for a picnic lunch where the air was really acrid and hurt our throats.  It looked like dusk in the middle of the day.  We later learned that the fires were quite close by.

We are heading to Lassen National Park in northeast California, where we plan to visit a few days before going to the house-sit.  We are due at the house-sit on August 8, so we are taking our time.

We stopped at this national forest service park as it looked nice.  It is on Fish Lake with a view of the Cascade Mountains.  Very pretty.  It is almost empty, a nice change of pace from the coast.

DINNER:  We didn't make a campfire as it was spitting rain.  We still have fish that George caught, so fish was on the menu again.  I made it Asian style....sautéed onion, garlic and diced ginger in sesame oil.  Added the fish and a bit of soy sauce.  Sides were broccoli and rice.
