Day 206. February 28, 2014. Becoming a birder?

We are still in Choke Canyon State Park.  We had extended our stay here through tonight as a professional BBQer camper arrived and announced that he would smoke ribs tonight.  Unfortunately, something came up and he had to leave this AM.  Darn!

We went on a ranger-led bird walk.  We saw quite a few interesting birds, including a huge great-horned owl on her nest.

We went on a picnic at another part of the park.  We scrounged a bunch of firewood there,  as gathering wood here at our campground is not allowed. A lot of it is mesquite which we will use next time when we are grilling.

In the PM,  we attended another class on birds.  A regional park bird specialist was visiting and offered to take the class..another couple and us...for another walk.  George went fishing, but I joined them.  I'm getting the hang of it a bit.  Saw Sandhill cranes this time.

Back at the campsite, George did  his exercises.  He lifts the trailer hitch extender which weighs about 40 pounds.

Since we missed out on the BBQ,  my meal planning got goofed up.  We ended up with leftovers supreme......the rest of the garbanzo beans to which I added the remaining chicken breast, and the rest of the fried rice which I stretched with a can of peas.  We leave tomorrow and will stay in a hotel, so I am trying to empty the refrigerator as much as possible.
