Day 213. March 7, 2014. Ranch country!

LOCATION:  Drove 80 miles SW.  Now in Garner State Park, about 75 miles west of San Antonio, TX
WEATHER:  Sunny, high in 60s

We had reservations for tonight at a dude ranch, along with tour and chuck wagon dinner, but they canceled due to forecasted thunderstorms.  So, we hit the road.  We stopped at a grocery, as we were told that our next campground is out in the middle of nowhere.  We stopped for a picnic lunch at this place below.  Are we in England?  Easter Island?
Some guy in a little town built these replicas of Stonehenge and Easter Island statues.
We drove through beautiful ranch country.  Most ranches have high fences with "exotics" inside like antelope, gazelles, and different kinds of deer, that are used for hunting.  We saw some.  Here is a cute fence with cowboy boots
We arrived at Garner in the late PM.  We will camp here for 3 nights.  It is Spring Break for some, so campgrounds are getting busier.

DINNER:  George wanted to try some turkey thighs, so we grilled them, after marinating in some garlic marinade we had bought when we visited the Tabasco factory in Louisiana.  We had an appetizer of avocado slices drizzled with a squeeze of lime and salt.  We are getting really spoiled with cheap, perfectly ripe avocados.
With the turkey, I served dressing, roasted poplano pepper, and steamed broccoli.

  1. What is the attraction out there in the middle of no where? Just camping - or now in your new digs, "glamping"? The turkey thighs sound good. I bet they will make great leftovers. Where did you cook them, on the grill?
