August 11, 2015. Getting organized in the farm

LOCATION: Ukiah, California in NW part of state
WEATHER:  Very nice.  Cool in morning and evening.

Today was our first day on our own.  A lovely Brazilian lady is house sitting with us.  We planned our schedules, deciding who would do what when.  It will be nice having 3 people work in the garden.  There is a lot to do.

The nights are wonderfully cool, so we open up windows and doors.  Then, in the mornings, we close everything back up to keep the house cool.

I did some laundry as it is a sunny day.  This house us "off the grid" depending entirely on solar energy. So, we only was clothes when the sun is strong.  Then, we hang the clothes outside to dry.

The tomatoes are in full season now, so I made gazpacho for lunch.  George is eager to eat BLTs, too.    When we have extra tomatoes, more than we can sell or eat, we sun-dry them, so that the homeowners can sell sun-dried tomatoes next winter.  Here is George laying tomato slices out to dry.

After a hard day, George relaxed on the porch.

As we were sitting there, this deer came into the yard to eat some dead grass.

DINNER:  Leftover gumbo.  Side was sautéed kale from the garden.
