August 15, 2015. Big farmers' market

LOCATION:  Farm near Ukiah, California in NW part of state
WEATHER:  Hot.  Highs in town about 100.  90s at farm

We got up at 6:00 to pack up for the market.  Paola and I washed and spun the salad mix.  George picked some last-minute greens.  It was very rush-rush.  We loaded up our truck and Paola's car.  Ukiah is about 20 minutes away.  We set up and then people started shopping at about 9:00.  In addition to the salad mix, we were selling cherry tomatoes (lots), zucchini, peppers, onions, garlic, herbs, Asian pears, pears, apples and kale chips.  Business was pretty brisk.  We sold out of the salad mix and kale chips.

My tabbouleh recipe idea worked well.  People bought packages of mint, parsley and baskets of cherry tomatoes to make the tabbouleh.  I gave them copies of the recipe.  Since it did well, I will try it again next week.

After selling all morning and packing up, we were pretty hot and tired.  We went to a fun beer bistro in town.  We had some small brewery beers and a portobello mushroom/veggie sandwich.  The bistro specializes in wood-fired pizzas.

After doing some grocery shopping, we came back home.  We rested until it cooled off.  Then, we had to go back to the garden to pick again for Sunday's market.  Mostly we picked salad mix (edible flowers, herbs, greens), and kale so we could make more chips.

As I was picking, I heard something in the mulch.  Rattlesnake?  I watched and finally saw a small lizard. Whew!

The smoke from the wildfires is so thick that we can no longer see the lights from the town below us.

DINNER:  Chicken with herbs from the garden.  Side of lettuce greens with  leftover taboulleh.
