August 3, 2015. Back to California

CAMPGROUND:  Fowler's Camp campground.  Part of National Forest Service.  Really nice paved sites with excellent fire rings.  Pit toilets. No hook-ups.  $7.50/night with senior pass.  4 stars (due to falls)
LOCATION:  Far Northern California near Mount Shasta
WEATHER:  Hot. Highs in 80s

We had not unhooked the camper, so we got an early start.  We drove about 150 miles southeast.  When we passed into California, we had to stop at an inspection station.  The inspector went through our camper...a little strange.  We forgot to tell him about a lime tucked into the microwave.  Illegal contraband!

We arrived in the town of Weed, California.  They take advantage of their name, selling shirts, etc with "I love Weed" on them.  We stopped at Weed Ales for lunch.  They, too, use the name shamelessly....

It was a nice bistro.

I had their Imperial High IPA.  They are a part of Mount Shasta Brewery.

Weed is the starting point for hikers climbing Mount Shasta.  We could see the mountain, still with some snow on the top.  We passed on the hiking opportunity.

Thanks to google, I found a really nice NFS campground outside of Weed.  It is on our way to Lassen National Park, where we are headed.  The campground was only half full.  It has 2 nearby waterfalls.  We hiked to both and cooled  off in their pools.  How refreshing!

DINNER;  It started to cool off in the evening, so George made a campfire.  I made Italian minestrone soup with refrigerator leftovers......beans, pasta bits, onions, garlic, diced steak, and Parmesan cheese.  Very good!
