August 31, 2015. Cooking class fun

LOCATION:  Organic farm near Ukiah, in NW California
WEATHER:  Very nice. Highs in 80s

Our friends Daniel and Minnie left, heading north to a campground gear Eureka, CA.  It was so very nice seeing them again.  This is the best part of traveling.....meeting great people like them.

At the farmers' market last week, one of the vendors invited me to attend a cooking class.  She and a friend secured a government grant to teach a series of classes around this area, promoting local foods and farmers' markets.  It was fun, and very well-organized.  It was held in a beautifully equipped commercial kitchen at the Senior Center.

Since it was a 3-hour class, I drove myself into town, as there wouldn't be anything for George to do so long.  I dont t usually drive the long, steep, winding road up and down the mountain to the farm.  It is kind of scary....lots of blind curves, one-way stretches.  Thank goodness there is hardly no traffic.

At the cooking class, we made a savory tomato jam, an onion spread, pickled peppers, zucchini patties, and a mango salsa.  I learned how to can!

All the fruits and veg were very fresh.  The cantaloupe was especially good...

We sampled the food during the class, then brought home all of the finished products, in nice jars and aluminum containers.

While I was away, George and Paola cut up tomatoes for sun-drying....

DINNER:  I served the zucchini patties we made in class, along with some leftover mashed potatoes and cauliflower, to which I sprinkled goat cheese that we had bought at the farmers' market.
