Many people have told us that we MUST go to Franklin's while in Austin. Comments on Yelp and Facebook websites said that people wait 4+ hours in line. They open at 11:00 AM, and close when they run out of BBQ, usually around 1:00. So, people sometimes wait for hours, only to find out that they were too late for the food. Comments on the websites said it was worth the wait. People I talked with confirmed, so we decided to do it. We got there about 8:30 AM. People were already in line. It was cold, about 38, and rainy. It was a real party atmosphere.
There was an enterprising "dude"on the side street renting chairs for people in line
George walked about 1/2mile and brought us bagels and coffee. A man and his daughter came around selling Girl Scout cookies which were popular
People were drinking beer and mimosas.
We waited 3 hours outside, then 1hour inside after they opened their doors.
The owners and waitstaff are super-friendly, and amazingly no one complained about the wait.
When we got to the counter (at 12:30, four hours in line), the server gave us some free brisket to sample. Yes....it was worth the wait. We bought brisket, pulled pork and sausage links. Just decadent!
We went grocery shopping in the PM for Super Bowl food. The store was packed...the clerk said it was busier than any other holiday. We watched the game, and I won some $$$ due to my keen knowledge about football. :-)
