January 2, 2015. Swamp life

CAMPGROUND: 2nd night Sam Houston Jones State Park
WEATHER:  Rain on-and-off. Highs in 50s

We are staying here 3 nights until we head to a state park in Texas that people have recommended to us, on an island near Corpus Christi.  Until then, we are here near Lake Charles, trying to make the best of the weather.

This campground, as do many other Louisiana State Parks, has a free laundry, so I took advantage of it.

Heavy rains were predicted, but it mostly drizzled.  In between rains, we took a nice hike.  We are surrounded by swamps. These cypress trees are trying to survive in a swamp that was drained to kill an invasive plant.

We didn't go on the trails, as they were too muddy.  I wouldn't want to be here in summer...

We did computer work and read.  Tomorrow, we will go to town and explore the area.

DINNER: Hambugers on the hibachi grill.  We don't have these too often, but indulge once in awhile. We combined the hamburger meat with pork sausage.  Embarrassingly delicious!  I cut a sweet potato lengthwise and grilled the slices for a side.
