January 4, 2015. Goose Island State Park, Texas

CAMPGROUND:  Goose Island State Park.  In the wooded section, not the beach.  Nice, secluded sites.  Water and electricity.  Good bathrooms.  4 stars. $18/night
LOCATION:  On Gulf of Mexico, 30 miles north of Corpus Christi in western Texas
WEATHER:  Sunny. Highs in 50s

We got an early start and left Lake  Charles about 7:00 AM.  Our destination was Goose Island, where we have a reservation for a week.  We drove west about an hour, then enterered Texas.

Last year, people told us that Goose Island is a great campground.  We knew we had to drive through busy Houston, so had planned our travel so that we would pass through there on a Sunday.

We passed lots of oil refineries and rice fields.  Houston seems huge; traffic wasn't too bad.   Then, we turned south through lots of huge cattle ranches.  We drove about 350 miles.

The campground is nice, and not crowded like we had heard it would be.  We decided to stay in the wooded area, as the beach side is less protected and more windy.  We took a hike around the campground, then drove around the area.

DINNER:  In the spirit of Texas, I made fajitas, using leftover grilled hamburger and veggies.

Evening.....watched start of Downton Abbey's new season, of course!
