January 8, 2015. Seafood on Goose Island

CAMPGROUND:  5th night at Goose Island State Park
WEATHER:  Much colder. Cloudy, windy. Highs in 40s

We went into nearby Fulton/Rockport to run errands.  We visited the beautiful Fulton Mansion that is under renovation.

We were dying to eat our first of the year oysters on the half shell, and indulged ourselves at this beach-side restaurant. This guy shucked them for us.....

Then, we enjoyed.....

Back at the campground, we went on a nature hike guided by another park ranger.  This one focused on plants.

It is supposed to get really cold tonight, so we did some preparations, including getting out the electric blanket.

We went to a nearby local tavern to keep warm and to chat with locals.  There were pictures on the walls made out of beer caps.

This was NOT a fancy craft beer place.  George ordered the most exotic one, Tecate.  The bartender asked if he wanted it "naked" or "dressed".  We hadn't heard that before.  We learned that "dressed" is in the bottle with a lime wedge and salt around the rim.

We had an appetizer of garlic butter broiled scallops.  Yum!

DINNER:  Canned salmon sautéed with onion and dill.  Served over rice.
