We drove through coal mine country in VA and WV.  Pretty poor.  Snow was pretty in the mountains and trees.
We arrived in Cumberland National Forest, after about a 4-hour drive.  We hiked a bit and met a neighbor who gave us a huge amount of wood from the sawmill where he works.  Great campfire.  Dinner was not a culinary achievement.  We had Spam and cheese sandwiches using our pie-iron.  We didn't judge the timing very well, and they were burnt to a crisp.
