July 10, 2016. Travel day to Oxford

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Oxford, England
WEATHER:  Cloudy in AM, warm in PM.  Some evening showers. Highs in 70s

We bade farewell to The Old Vicarage in Sheffield.  I took one last photo of the cemetery, as viewed from our bedroom window.

We said goodbye to our wonderful homeowners who kindly took us to the train station.  We have had a wonderful week here, and could have stayed longer to explore further.

Our train ride to Oxford was 3 legs.  First, we had about a 1-hour trip to Birmingham.  It was standing room only, with lots of Sunday travelers.  We had a 1-hour layover in Birmingham, so popped into a pub to fortify ourselves for the next leg of the journey.  :-)

We are in Shakespeare country, near his birthplace.

Then, a short train tide to Leamington Spa.  We transferred to busses there, as they were working on the rails.  After another hour, we arrived in Oxford where our new homeowner picked us up.

We spent some time getting to know her two cats a bit and watching the finals of Wimbledon.   We cheered on England's finalist to win.   The wheelchair tennis matches were amazing, too.

Then with our homeowner, we hiked through a meadow to a pub.  From there, to another one where we had dinner.  This pub was right on one of the canals that cut through Oxford.  The long boats were moored along the walkway.  We will be doing a canal boat trip in September.  Looks so fun!

We shared a venison burger that was quite good, then hiked on home to bed.
