July 17, 2016. An outing on the Thames River

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Oxford, England
WEATHER:  Sunny and very warm. Highs upper 70s

We spent most of the day walking along the Thames River. Starting near our house, we followed the footpath along the river.  Since it was a warm and sunny Sunday, lots of people were doing the same.  As we walked along, we soon lost the city and found ourselves in a meadow.  Some horses were cooling off next to the swans and geese in the river.

George was intrigued by the rigs the fishermen use to get close to the water...

People were out sailing, too...

After a few miles, we came to a lock.  When we rent a long-boat this September, we will have to negotiate these locks, too.

We reached The Trout Inn, our destination, after about 1.5 hours of walking. It is a lovely gastropub on the river.

We shared a seafood sampler for lunch, with smoked salmon, Devon crab, and crawfish salad.  Very nicely prepared.

Next to the pub are the remains of this nunnery from 1116.  Wow!

Back home, we cooled off and rested.  George is watching golf, The Open, on TV.

DINNER:  Beans and rice.

  1. Did you see the ghost of Inspector Morse or Lewis at The Trout?
