July 18, 2016. Beautiful Blenheim Palace

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Oxford, England
WEATHER:  Hot!  Highs mid-80s.  Sunny

Knowing it would be hot today, we decided to spend a day at Bleinhem Palace, rather than taking a long hike.  We bought a weekly bus pass that will enable us to travel around to Cotswold villages this week.

We found a nice picnic area on the palace grounds and had an "al fresco" lunch.

It is a beautiful palace.  Side view at picnic area.....

We looked at an interesting Winston Churchill exhibit.  He was the grandson of the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough who lived there (as do their descendants today).  He was born at the palace, married here, and eventually was buried here.

We walked around the formal gardens, then around the huge grounds, first following a path along the lake.

Thank goodness for big shade trees!  The heat really got to me.

Then, a big loop to another side of the palace....  It doesn't look real!

Blenheim is about a 30-minute bus ride from Oxford.  We returned to the city by bus where it seemed that even more tourists had arrived.  The poor bus driver had to negotiate around other buses, tourists walking cluelessly in the streets, and bicyclists whizzing by.

Back home, we relaxed, along with our cats....

After dinner, I sat outside and watched this hot air balloon land in the meadow near our house.

Virgin seems to be in everything....airplanes, trains, balloons.

DINNER:  Chicken pasta.
