July 12, 2016. Oxford explorations

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Oxford, England
WEATHER:  Mostly sunny. High in upper 60s

We took off for our day's outing about noon.  First stop was one of the pubs that our homeowner had recommended.  Note the puppy peaking out from the upstairs window.....

The patrons and server were super friendly.  They served some really good beers, too.  We had to politely decline a fellow's offer to buy us a round.  As we were leaving, the server followed us out the door and gave us 2 bottles of beer he wanted us to try!  We will return!

We followed the Oxford Canal walking path to a neighborhood called Jericho. Along the path were many long boats, some of them short-term rentals, and others permanent housing like this one.

We found the canal boat company that we are using in September to rent a boat for a few days.

Jericho is nice as it is off the tourist path.  Quiet with neat restaurants and pubs, like this one, The Old Bookbinders.

We visited the Oxford Castle which dates back to the year 1000.  We took a tour of the tower, which has mostly been a prison until recently.  The guide showed us how a prisoner (I volunteered) would be displayed to the local people.

On our way home, we stopped in another pub that our homeowner had recommended.  Called The Jam Factory, it is in a warehouse that had been used to make marmalade.

Back home, we had a nice pasta dinner with our homeowner.
