July 6, 2016. New pub friends

LOCATION:  House-sitting in Sheffield, England
WEATHER:  Another sunny, warm day.  Highs in low 70s.  What happened to those rainy, dreary days that England is famous for?  Not complaining!!

Since we have a weekly bus/tram pass, we took two trams from end to end, just to see more of the city.  Sheffield is very hilly.  On one of the trams, we were able to look at the city and surrounding farm lands below us.

We got off for lunch when we saw this nice-looking pub.  We split their special.....a beer and a curry for 5 pounds, about $6.50 USD.  A good deal!  The curry was nice and spicy. The British pound is a little weak right now, so our exchange rate is good.

I just love pub signs.  We saw these 2 in York yesterday.....The Three-Legged Mare..

And the Punch Bowl.

When we returned, I did some watering.  The flowers are drooping a bit from this sunny weather.  The flowers here at The Vicarage are beautiful.  A real English garden!

At 5:00, we slipped through our adjoining cemetary back door gate, cut through the cemetery, and walked up the hill  to our neighborhood pub.

We had arranged to meet up with a couple we had met a few days ago there.  What fun!  I laughed so much!  I told our new friend Charlie that he reminds me so much of Mr. Lucas in the Brit-Com "Are You Being Served".  (aged gracefully since the 1970s show).....

I learned a new phrase....."It's Marmite", which means "You either love it or hate it".  I love the British phrases like this.

Another couple joined us, and we had hours of great conversation and laughter.  Only a little bit of politics discussion!  :-)

The pub had a steak & wine special which we had for dinner.  Great evening!
